mkMohamad’s project is focused on cell transplantation strategies for treatment of spinal cord injury.

Spinal cord injury is a common cause of disability and financial hardship that is currently without a cure. Neural Progenitor Cells derived from induced human pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs-NPCs) represent an easily accessible cell source that have shown great promise but are limited due to several translational roadblocks including low levels of cell survival after transplantation and also differentiation to unfavorable cell types. In his project he is looking into molecular strategies to enhance the efficiency of hiPSCs-NPC cell transplantation by increasing their survival rate after transplantation and improving the efficiency of myelination by directing the commitment of hNPCs toward the glial lineage.
